Educating all of our children is of paramount importance to the health and well-being of society. Founded in 1923, the Rutgers’ Graduate School of Education (GSE) is a national leader in preparing educators who create effective and equitable learning environments and in developing researchers who discover the new knowledge that strengthens and advances their endeavors. As a professional school within Rutgers, a premier public research university and New Jersey’s state university, the GSE is uniquely positioned to offer rigorous master’s and doctoral degree programs as well as research-based professional education for teachers, administrators, and other education leaders.

Boasting 30 Ed.M. degree programs, a Ph.D. in Education program and a newly redesigned Ed.D. program, the GSE has a place for every education professional. The Rutgers doctorate in education (Ed.D.) is tailored to complement the needs of working professionals by providing a sequence of coursework and hands-on leadership experiences along with individualized mentoring.  The program guides future and current leaders in the development of the knowledge, skills, and dispositions needed to solve problems of practice and improve instructional quality.  Ed.D. graduates will serve as change agents working to improve the lives of students, their families and communities.  Learn more about the Ed.D. program by attending our online information session on Tuesday, January 10 at 7 P.M.

The GSE strives to prepare students for responsible global citizenship by providing opportunities to experience diverse cultures and gain an understanding of the education challenges faced internationally.  This is demonstrated in the several  Global Programs offered.  The South Africa Initiative (SAI) bridges cultures, connects educators and provides hope for learners and students from South Africa and the United States. SAI is an interdisciplinary program provides teachers and students on both sides of the world with the opportunity to exchange information through service learning, training, and distance technology that leads to educational gains for students and educators in both countries.  The GSE is also home to a Study Tour to Argentina. This unique three-credit summer experience includes service learning in a school; seminars regarding language, education, literacy, bilingualism, and biculturalism; and an Argentinean cultural experience.  Additional information about the Study Tour to Argentina is available at an information session on January 25th and 26th from 6:30 to 7:30 P.M.

The GSE offers Non-Degree Certification Programs for professional licensures in the field of education. The GSE’s most recent addition to certification offerings is the fully online Graduate Certificate in Educational Technology,  a 9-credit program that is working to equip teachers with the tools and skills needed to prepare their students for the rapidly-evolving use of technology in the global economy.  Additionally the GSE offers a 12-credit program forSupervisors, and a 21-credit  Endorsement Program for Special Education; all of which are available completely online.  View the continuing education schedule by clicking here
