Non-degree Graduate Certificate in Educational Technology

Students enrolled in the Educational Technology graduate certificate program at the GSE will be introduced to the latest collaborative, web 2.0 digital tools and coinciding methods for effective practice. They will learn the basics of web design using these tools, address issues related to Internet safety, and carry out an educational project incorporating technology integration. Through completion of the coursework, students can expect to develop proficiency in educational technology, and readiness to address the challenges of preparing learners for the demands of our information-rich, Digital Age society. More specifically, in Web-Based Multimedia Design for Educators (15:255:504), students will come to understand how new media challenge traditional ways of learning and communicating, investigate learning theory and its implications on interactive multimedia, and study the relationship of instructional design principles to the selection of media elements (text, video, sound, animation, and graphics) for high-quality, effective design and assessment of multimedia projects. In the third and final course of the program, students will explore issues surrounding online and distance learning, examine the theoretical frameworks, historical development, pedagogical issues and practical applications of distance and hybrid eLearning education, and later learn to develop their own digital e-learning environments.

9 Graduate Course Credits

• 3 Credits – Introduction to Teaching with Digital Tools
• 3 Credits – Web-Based Multimedia Design for Educators
• 3 Credits – Developing Digital e-Learning Environments 

Students are expected to maintain a “B” or better average as a non-degree student. Accepted students will have 5 years to complete the program. After completing all of the required courses in the program, students should contact the Office of Academic Services at the GSE. Students will receive official documentation of their completion, endorsed by the Rutgers University Graduate School of Education.

Earning a graduate certificate at the GSE allows candidates to advance their understanding of, and gain practical skills pertaining to, the integration of educational technology in various learning environments. Candidates from diverse backgrounds are encouraged to apply, as earning a certificate can help students enter into a new specialization they’ve yet to explore, or advance or stay competitive in a space they already have knowledge in. The program offers a comprehensive look at the latest tools and research in the field and can lead to potential career benefits including advancement, role flexibility, or leadership responsibility.

Current Rutgers University Students:
