The Education as a Social Science minor is designed for students interested in investigating learning and teaching in a broad range of human contexts. Whether entering the field of education or considering a different industry, this multi-disciplinary minor provides each student with an understanding of the complexities of education and its many influences on societal development.
The Education as a Social Science Minor Offers Seven Concentrations:
Educational Policy & Social Justice. Examines social foundations of education and inequities at the intersections of race, class, gender, and culture.
Creativity & Play. Explores creativity, the arts and imagination in professional and formal and informal educational settings and the role of play for learning and development throughout the lifespan.
Global Education. Provides students with opportunities to investigate issues concerning the impact of globalization on education, human rights and education, migration and education, and comparative education across the globe.
Exceptional Learners. Investigates learning and teaching with gifted learners and students with learning disabilities.
General Studies. Offers students the opportunity to grasp the foundations of education while exploring multiple areas of interest.
Digital Learning. This concentration will permit students to learn about education and computers, digital games and learning, and other topics related to learning in digital learning environments.
Community Studies and Civic Engagement. This concentration is for students interested in educational leadership in informal learning settings, such as museums and community organizations.
