CAEP Accreditation

Rutgers Graduate School of Education (GSE) serves as the accreditation center for all Rutgers – New Brunswick Programs that lead to educator certification in the state of New Jersey.  In fall 2021, the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP), an approved national accreditor by the state of New Jersey, granted full accreditation to all Rutgers – New Brunswick educator preparation programs with no stipulations or areas for improvement. The term of accreditation lasts through December 2028, with the next site visit scheduled for spring 2028. CAEP’s Accreditation Letter and Action Report from November 2021 provide further details about Rutgers – New Brunswick’s accreditation. Fully-accredited programs include:

Initial Teacher Licensure –

  • Rutgers Alternate Route Program (non-degree program housed at Rutgers GSE)
  • Music Education (bachelor’s degree program through Mason Gross School of the Arts)
  • Rutgers GSE master’s degree programs leading to teacher certification in: Agricultural Science Education (in conjunction with School of Environmental and Biological Sciences), Biology Education, Dance Education (in conjunction with Mason Gross School of the Arts), Elementary Program, English Education, Language Education, Mathematics Education, Physics Education, Social Studies Education, Special Education

Programs leading to Advanced-level Certification in

  • Educational Leadership (Principal)
  • English as a Second Language and Bilingual Bicultural Teacher (ESL/BBE)
  • Learning Disabilities Teacher-Consultant (LDTC)
  • Pre-School – Grade 3 Teacher
  • Reading Specialist
  • School Administration (Superintendent)
  • Supervisor
  • Teacher Leadership
  • Teacher of Students with Disabilities

CAEP Accountability Measures

Each year, the GSE submits reports of accountability measures for CAEP-accredited programs. These reports are meant to provide critical information for the public about the quality of the programs offered at Rutgers – New Brunswick. Reports from the last three years can be found below.

NJ Department of Education’s Performance Reports

Each year the New Jersey Department of Education publishes reports about the performance of program completers from every educator preparation program in the state. These Educator Preparation Provider (EPP) Performance Reports provide important data about the quality of educator preparation programs in the state. Rutgers – New Brunswick’s reports from the three most recent years can be found below:

Title II of the Higher Education Act

Each year, as required by Title II of the Higher Education Act, states and institutions with teacher preparation programs must submit data about their programs and certifications. Title II data is the only comprehensive repository of teacher preparation and credentialing information nationally. Rutgers New Brunswick’s Title II Information is publicly available for the last decade, and can be found through the above link by navigating to New Jersey, selecting “2. Providers”, selecting the information desired, then finding Rutgers in the alphabetical list on the right.

CACREP Accreditation

The Ed.M. with Certification in School Counseling Program offered at Rutgers GSE is accredited through the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP) until March 2026 and meets all requirements for the New Jersey School Counselor Educational Services Certification.

CACREP-Required Reporting of Outcomes

Each year, the GSE creates an Annual Report in compliance with CACREP’s 2024 Standards (specifically Standard 2.F), which can be found below:
