Study in Argentina this Summer: Come to our Info Session and Lecture

Information sessions for the Summer 2012 Argentina Study Tour will be held on January 25 and 26. Both information sessions will include a lecture by Professor Sylvia Rivero of the Universidad del Centro Educativo Latinoamericano (UCEL) located in Rosario, Argentina.  The information sessions and lecture will be held at 6 p.m. on Wednesday January 25 and Thursday, January 26 at 6 p.m. in the Graduate School of Education's Main Lecture Hall, located at 10 Seminary Place, New Brunswick, NJ 089001.

The Argentina Study Tour offers a unique 3-credit summer experience taking place in Rosario and Buenos Aires where students can fully immerse themselves in Argentinian culture as they explore topics of education, language, bilingualism, literacy and much more. The program includes an orientation of UCEL, service learning in a school and seminars provided by GSE faculty as well as faculty from Universidad del Centro Educativo Latinoamericano.  As part of this culturally-rich experience, students will stay with host families during the tour, visit museums of art and history, meet and spend time with local Argentinian college students, and enjoy Argentinian entertainment including Tango.

With the growth of the Hispanic population in the United States and especially in New Jersey, the goal of the study tour is to expose students to Argentine society through lived experiences, services learning and self-reflection. Participants of the program will gain a clearer understanding of teaching and learning as they better understand themselves in the context of Argentina and its culture. By building on their personal and professional competence as well as critical thinking skills, participants will be prepared to face the challenges of working with non-native English speakers in the U.S.  Interested students should have intermediate proficiency in Spanish to interact with teachers and faculty during the tour although seminars will be presented in English.
