Rutgers Graduate School of Education at 2022 AERA Annual Meeting

Rutgers Graduate School of Education faculty and students, along with our university-wide colleagues, will be featured in over 65 presidential, paper, roundtable, and other sessions at the 2022 American Educational Research Association (AERA) Annual Meeting. The meeting takes place in San Diego, CA and virtually from Thursday, April 21 through Tuesday, April 26.

This year’s theme is Cultivating Equitable Education Systems for the 21st Century, which calls on participants to “address the residual effects of the four pandemics (Ladson-Billings, 2021[1])—the COVID-19 pandemic, the pandemic of systemic racism, the economic crisis, and the climate crisis—that together lay bare the long-standing and deep disparities in our systems of education and call for a new charge.”

Rutgers GSE is pleased to announce that faculty member Dr. Drew H. Gitomer, Rose & Nicholas DeMarzo Chair in Education, will be inducted as an AERA Fellow. We extend additional congratulations to Drs. Drew Gitomer, Nora E. Hyland, and Daniel Battey, who have been selected to receive the Palmer O. Johnson Memorial Award for their article, “Assessing the Assessment: Evidence of Reliability and Validity in the edTPA,” co-authored with Dr. José Felípe Martinez (University of California, Los Angeles). The article published in the American Educational Research Journal, Volume 58, Issue 5, February 2021. This award recognizes the lifelong achievement of Palmer O. Johnson as a dedicated educator and for his pioneering work in educational research and methodology and is given for an outstanding article appearing in AERA Open, the American Educational Research Journal, Educational Evaluation and Policy Analysis, Educational Researcher, or the Journal of Educational and Behavioral Statistics.

Of the full cohort of 2022 award winners, AERA Executive Director Felice J. Levine says, “We are excited to honor these exemplary individuals for their outstanding achievements in advancing education research. Their cutting-edge scholarship and tireless support of the education research field are making a difference in the lives of students, educators, and others.”

The 2022 AERA Awards Ceremony and Celebration will take place on Sunday, April 24, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. PT in the San Diego Convention Center.
