Introducing Two New Lecture Series Sponsored by the GSE’s Endowed Chairs
The GSE is pleased to announce the creation of two new lecture series sponsored by the school's endowed chairs. The DeMarzo Lecture Series on Teaching is sponsored by Dr. Drew Gitomer, the Rose and Nicholas DeMarzo Chair in Education, and will feature outstanding scholars who will address a broad range of issues around teaching. The Samuel DeWitt Proctor Lecture Series, sponsored by Dr. Fred A. Bonner II, the Samuel DeWitt Proctor Chair in Education, will showcase highly-regarded experts who work to promote diversity, equity and inclusion in education.
The DeMarzo Lecture Series on Teaching
The inaugural session of this series will kick off with Dr. Pam Grossman, the Nomellini-Olivier Professor of Education at Stanford University, at 4 p.m. on Monday, November 5, 2012 at the Alexander Library Lecture Hall located at 169 College Avenue, 4th Floor, New Brunswick, NJ.
In her talk, From Measurement to Improvement: Leveraging Observation Protocols for Professional Development, Dr. Grossman will examine the role of observation instruments in improving teacher practice and student achievement. Dr. Grossman, whose current research ranges from the study of classroom practice in middle school English language arts to the cross-professional study of the teaching of practice in programs to prepare teachers, clergy, and clinical psychologists, has more than 30 years of experience in the field of education. One of her primary research interests is teacher education, as evidenced in her role as faculty director of Stanford University’s Center to Support Excellence in Teaching.

The Samuel DeWitt Proctor Lecture Series
This series features five presentations to be held throughout the academic year. The first presentation Social Justice Conversations with Dr. David Stovall, features Dr. David Stovall, an associate professor of Educational Policy Studies and African-American Studies at the University of Illinois at Chicago.
