Join Amanda Bruno and Jack Goodman Cheng of Lewis-Burke Associates LLC, a leading full-service government relations firm specializing in advocating for the public policy interests of higher education and research organizations, for an in-depth look at the evolving landscape of federal funding for education research. As the second Trump administration takes shape, Bruno and Cheng will examine policy priorities, budget proposals, and potential shifts in research funding opportunities. They will provide insights into how political dynamics, administrative actions, and legislative agendas may impact funding streams and research initiatives across the education sector. Participants will gain a clearer understanding of the challenges and opportunities ahead—and strategies to position their institutions for success in a changing federal environment.
Bio:
Jack Goodman-Cheng assists Lewis-Burke clients in developing congressional and agency engagement strategies in the realm of health and biomedical research, health professions workforce, social and behavioral sciences, and arts and humanities. Jack’s expertise covers a broad range of agencies, including HRSA, SAMHSA, NIH, AHRQ, and CDC, and assists clients in navigating the complex and changing landscape of health policy and funding. Jack additionally assists with the firm’s education and emerging technology research portfolios. Prior to joining Lewis-Burke, Jack gained experience in the House of Representatives, on political campaigns, and in university student affairs offices. He has a bachelor’s degree from Washington University in St. Louis with majors in computer science and business.
Amanda is a trusted specialist in education, economic development, and workforce policy across Congress and within the Departments of Education, Commerce, and Labor, as well as the National Science Foundation. She has years of experience in navigating the legislative processes to authorize and fund federal programs related to education and scientific research funding, sustainable economic development, and access to education and workforce training. In addition to her committed work on behalf of Lewis-Burke clients, Amanda drives research community initiatives through her leadership on STEM education policy and participation in the firm’s Technology Based Economic Development and Workforce practice groups. Prior to joining Lewis-Burke, Amanda served as a Government Affairs Associate in the Ohio State University Office of Federal Relations. She has a bachelor’s degree in political science and international relations from Miami University and a master’s in public policy from George Mason University.
