In this session, “Hip Hop in Education: Culture, Counseling & Critical Pedagogy,” our host, Dr. Nora Hyland, will sit down with Dr. Lauren Kelly and Dr. Ian Levy to discuss how Hip Hop culture serves as a powerful tool for youth identity, social justice, and emotional wellbeing.

Dr. Lauren Kelly is an Associate Professor of Urban Teacher Education at the GSE and the Director of the Hip Hop Youth Research and Activism (HHYRA) program, focusing on teaching youth identity, culture, and social justice in ways that empower young people to shape their worlds rather than simply find a place in it. She is joined by Dr. Levy, an Assistant Professor of School Counseling and author of Hip Hop and Spoken Word Therapy in School Counseling, who specializes in using Hip Hop-based interventions to support youth development.
