Drew Gitomer Appointed to an Endowed Chair Position

The Board of Governors on February 8, 2011 approved the appointment of Dr. Drew Gitomer as the inaugural holder of the Rose and Nicholas DeMarzo Chair in Education. The Chair was established in April 2009 by a bequest gift from the estate of Charles A. DeMarzo to honor his parents, Rose and Nicholas. The Chair is designed to honor, retain, or recruit eminent scholars in the field of teacher education for service on the GSE faculty. Professor Gitomer’s appointment is expected to begin September 2011.

After receiving his Ph.D. in cognitive psychology from Pittsburgh in 1984, Dr. Gitomer has spent most of his professional life at Educational Testing Service in Princeton, New Jersey. While at ETS, his advancement within the organization included service as Senior Vice President of Research & Development from 1999-2004. At present, he is a Distinguished Researcher and Director of ETS’s “Understanding Teaching Quality Center.”
