Per Diem Educator at a history museum

The Museum of Early Trades & Crafts (METC) is a New Jersey history museum located in Madison NJ. We are seeking experienced educators to work on a per diem basis with the Curator of Education to assist in delivering our wide variety of museum programs. Our public mission is realized through numerous educational and interactive programs tailored to students in grades K to 12, as well as senior and adult programs. We offer a variety of hands-on and engaging programs, exploring aspects of New Jersey history, with a focus on the late 18th through mid-19th centuries. Our education programs align with the NJ Student Learning Standards, and we have expanded our offerings to include programs on civics literacy, immigration, women, and minority rights as well as STEM/STEAM initiatives.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Assist Education department in delivering museum’s current programs to students, senior adults

• Work collaboratively alongside staff to engage all program participants.

• You have the flexibility of working according to your schedule, as it meets with our programming schedule

REQUIREMENTS:

• Degree in education or education-related field with previous training or teaching experience

• Must be self-motivated, organized, and goal oriented

• Ability and desire to work with learners of all ages, with a special focus on youth, families, and senior adults

• Must be able to work flexible hours as needed (although the bulk of our programs are between 10 am and 3pm)

• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to various locations if necessary for outreach

• Ability to learn and memorize program content, including lectures and craft facilitation, as well as the ability to tailor

content in the galleries as needed

• Ability to be physically active for a minimum of two hours

COMPENSATION:

$16-18/per hour. This is a temporary, part-time position through Spring 2025 with a potential to renew.
