Alumni and Faculty Awarded for Outstanding Paper

The paper, “Educational tug-of-war: internal and external accountability of principals in varied contexts” by Dr. Raymond Gonzalez (Ed.M. ‘05, Ed.D. ‘12) and Dr. William Firestone was recently honored with the 2014 A. Ross Thomas Outstanding Paper Award. This award acknowledges outstanding scholarly contributions to the Journal of Educational Administration.

Professor Philip Hallinger of the University of Hong Kong and Dr. FirestoneGonzalez extensively researched principal leadership as it related to accountability while pursuing a doctoral degree at the Graduate School of Education (GSE). Upon graduation, Dr. Gonzalez continued to collaborate with his dissertation chair, Dr. Firestone, to have his dissertation published in the 2013 volume of the Journal of Educational Administration.

Dr. Gonzalez received his Ed.D. in Educational Leadership from the GSE in 2011 and currently serves as superintendent of Wayne Township Public Schools. In 2013, Dr. Gonzalez was the recipient of the University Council for Educational Administration (UCEA) Excellence in Educational Leadership Award.

Dr. Firestone is a Distinguished Professor at the GSE in the Department of Educational Theory, Policy, and Administration.
