Course Registration Instructions

Participants already admitted to a program may register for courses via Rutgers’ online web registration system. Follow these steps:

  • Go to the web registration system to access the student log-in screen.
  • Enter your RUID number.
  • Enter your Personal Access Code (PAC), which is your month and date of birth (ex: 1106 for November 6).
  • To register for a course, click “Add/Drop Courses,” then “Submit.” Enter the index numbers of all courses desired and click “Add/Drop.”

Due to a system-embedded prerequisite block, students are unable to use the web registration system to register for the following Special Education Certification program courses: 05:300:480, 05:300:481, and 05:300:495. To register for these three courses (and only these courses), please send an email to academic.services@gse.rutgers.edu and include:

  • “Prereq Override Request” in the subject line, and
  • your name; RUID; email address; and course name, course number, and index number in the body of the email.

Your registration will be confirmed via email once it has been processed. Building addresses and room locations for classes will be communicated to you via email.

Please remember that if you intend on taking courses to be credited toward one of the GSE certification programs, you must complete an official application and be accepted into your desired program.

Concerning Nondegree Status

Successful completion of courses taken as a nondegree student does not mean that a student will be admitted to a degree program. Nondegree students may take as many courses as they wish, but only 12 of those credits may be transferred in the fulfillment of degree requirements in most programs. Application of those 12 credits is at the discretion of the academic department.

Admission to degree candidacy is based on academic transcript review, personal statement, GRE scores, academic and professional recommendations, and formal application. These criteria and the procedures through which they are employed are spelled out in the GSE catalog. Faculty are available to discuss admissions procedures and degree requirements with prospective degree candidates.

Concerning the 100-Hour New Jersey Professional Development Requirement

Rutgers’ GSE is a registered provider (vendor #96) of professional development programs, both credit and noncredit, that may count toward New Jersey’s 100-hour professional development requirement.
