In Memoriam: Melissa Thomas
It is with a broken heart and profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved friend and colleague Ms. Melissa Thomas. Melissa passed away unexpectedly on last Monday evening, leaving behind a legacy of dedication and professionalism that will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Melissa was an anchor of the Rutgers Graduate School of Education, welcoming every new face, and serving as an ambassador for our entire community as our Human Resources Manager. Melissa worked diligently to make us the stronger and more cohesive, diverse, and inclusive community that we are today. She will forever be fondly remembered for her grace, tenacity, warmth, absolute caring, and unwavering commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Melissa joined Rutgers University in 2013 as a Benefits Representative in Newark’s RBHS Benefits Office, bringing with her over a decade of experience. Her commitment to excellence and her profound understanding of HR policies and procedures made her an invaluable asset throughout her career at Rutgers.
Beyond her professional achievements, Melissa was known for her passion for her family, especially, her daughter Taylor, health and fitness, travel, cooking, and community service. She embodied the spirit of Rutgers University through her active engagement and commitment to our community.
Melissa earned her B.S. in Psychology from Rutgers University and later her M.S. in Human Resources Management from New School University, further illustrating her dedication to continuous personal and professional growth.
As we mourn together, let us remember Melissa with fondness and gratitude for the impact she will forever have on our GSE and Rutgers University community. Our thoughts are with her family and loved ones during this difficult time. We will deeply miss Melissa and the vibrant presence she brought to our work family.
