Dr. Michelle Mitcham is an Associate Professor of Professional Practice at Rutgers University, within the Department of Educational Psychology in the Graduate School of Education located in New Brunswick, New Jersey. With nearly two decades of experience in academia, she is a proud alumna of the University of Central Florida, where she earned both her undergraduate and doctoral degrees.

Dr. Mitcham has held several leadership roles in higher education and has been involved in elected positions within the Florida Counseling Association (FCA). Her expertise encompasses clinical mental health counseling, and school counseling, and she has played a pivotal role in training the next generation of school counselors, therapists, and educators. With extensive experience teaching in master’s and doctoral programs, Dr. Mitcham is dedicated to preparing future leaders in the counseling field.

She has presented her research and insights on a national and international stage, focusing on multicultural competencies for counselors and the integral role of school and mental health counselors within the family court system. Dr. Mitcham also possesses over a decade of specialized experience in accreditation through the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP), contributing significantly to the field as a team chair, team member, and chair mentor, evaluating graduate and doctoral programs across the country.

Additionally, she has provided valuable training and presentations at international conferences to school counselors and mental health professionals who support military personnel. Dr. Mitcham is honored to dedicate her expertise and commitment to excellence in counselor education at Rutgers University in the school counseling program.
