Dr. Matthew Mayer Appointed to American Educational Research Association Task Force for Bullying Prevention

Dr. Matthew Mayer has been appointed as a member for the American Educational Research Association's (AERA) Task Force on the Prevention of Bullying in Schools, Colleges, and Universities. As a member of the Task Force, Dr. Mayer will contribute in the development of research-based educational policies with focus on bullying prevention within the educational organization. Recommendations that are proposed by the task force are designed to ensure safe, respectful, and productive educational environments with emphasis on personal responsibility for behavior and how behavior can impact others. The Task Force will link existing research with various topics of education such as school reform, teacher education, administrator education, special education, cultural diversity within postsecondary schools, and programs of education.

The task force will work to identify the causes and consequences of bullying in schools, colleges, and universities; highlight training and technical assistance opportunities so that faculty and staff at all types of educational institutions may effectively address bullying; evaluate the effectiveness of current anti-bullying policies and bullying prevention programs; and assess the connections between bullying research and interventions and current and pending legislation. 

Recommendations for short-term and long-term goals for the prevention of bullying will be presented by the Task Force to the AERA Council.
