Kaylynn Montgomery

My research examines how Black families experience and navigate the IEP process in elementary schools. Grounded in Black Critical Race Theory, DisCrit Theory and Social Capital Theory, I will use qualitative methods to explore how race, institutional power, and access to resources shape family voice, advocacy, and decision-making in special education. My work centers Black family perspectives to inform more equitable, culturally responsive IEP practices.
