Assistant Professor of Professional Practice
Faculty

Gail S. Verona, Ed. D. is an assistant professor of Professional Practice in the Department of Educational Theory, Policy and Administration. Her work centers on providing clinical supervision and support for educational administration and supervision programs. This includes the supervision of principal certification internships, teaching graduate level courses in curriculum and supervision, and providing coordination and support of program activities. Verona always knew that she wanted to be an educator. She attended Brooklyn College where she earned a bachelor's degree in Education and Psychology and a master’s degree in Music Education. She was a basic skills instructor for middle and high school until July of 1993 when she went on to become a supervisor. During her time as a supervisor, she went back to school and attended Rutgers University, receiving her Ed. M. and Ed. D. in Educational Administration and Supervision. Since then, she has held many principal and school superintendent roles.

In September of 2016, Verona joined the Rutgers GSE faculty as an assistant professor of Professional Practice. As a retired principal and superintendent of schools, Verona values the opportunity to share her K-12 theory and practical school experiences with aspiring school administrators. Her responsibilities include teaching classes and staying involved in the Endorsement Program for Supervisor Certification here at the Rutgers GSE. In addition, she also has professional affiliations with the NJ Association of School Administrators, the NJ Principals and Supervisors Association, the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, the New Jersey School Development Council at Rutgers University and the Rutgers School of Education Alumni Association and in January 2018, she was appointed to serve as the Rutgers University Advisory Board Liaison to the Educational Services Commission of New Jersey’s (ESCNJ) Board of Directors. Verona’s inspiration to pursue this career comes from her desire to give back to the profession by helping aspiring administrators advance in their careers.
