Learning Sciences Lunch and Learn with Dr. Tracie Marcella Addy, “Transforming Undergraduate STEM Education: Highlights From the 2025 National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine Report “
The format for this event will be hybrid with both in-person and virtual options. Our speaker will be presenting in person. However, all students and faculty are invited and encouraged to join us in the GSE Lecture Hall (Room 124) to connect with each other in-person and with the speaker virtually. Lunch will be provided!

The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine convened an ad hoc committee to develop a framework for equitable and effective teaching in undergraduate STEM and provide recommendations at various levels (e.g. courses, academic units, institutions). The resulting report Transforming Undergraduate STEM Education includes evidence-based principles that focus on making STEM education more accessible for learners. During this Lunch and Learn session, you will hear highlights from the report firsthand from a member of the committee, GSE affiliate faculty member, and the founding of the director of the Institute for Teaching, Innovation, and Inclusive Pedagogy at Rutgers University-New Brunswick, Dr. Tracie Marcella Addy.
Bio:
Tracie Marcella Addy, PhD, MPhil is an accomplished academic leader in higher education. She received her BS from Duke University, MPhil from Yale University, and PhD from North Carolina State University. She is a published scholar of teaching and learning and educational development. Her two main scholarly areas of focus include learner-centered teaching practices and the work of centers for teaching and learning. Dr. Addy’s work has been featured in a variety of academic journals and venues. She is the lead author of the books What Inclusive Instructors Do: Principles and Practices for Excellence in College Teaching (2021) and Enhancing Inclusive Instruction: Student Perspectives and Practical Approaches for Advancing Equity in Higher Education (2024). Her forthcoming books for which she is a co-author are tentatively titled Educational Development in the Age of Change, Johns Hopkins University Press (anticipated 2026 release), and Transforming Undergraduate STEM at Research Universities, Routledge (anticipated 2028 release). Recently, Dr. Addy served on the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine committee that developed the report Transforming Undergraduate STEM Education (2025) through a consensus study process.
