Teaching Position at La Casa de Don Pedro

Job Summary :

  • Plans and implements activities that promote the social, physical, and intellectual growth of 3 and 4 year old children. Responsible for the children’s care, learning, and developmental activities, specialized programs, and redirection of children. Communicates directly with parents. Maintains classroom records, cleanliness, and orderliness.


Responsibilities Include:

  •  Implementation of the Preschool Teaching and Learning Standards as well as for the curriculum alignment with New Jersey – Department of Education: Core Curriculum Content Standards.
  • Plan and implement the Creative Curriculum in the preschool classroom with 15, three or four year old children
  •  Assess children throughout the school year utilizing the ESI-R and GOLD Assessment Solutions
  •  Meet with parents or guardian to discuss their children's progress, areas of concern and needs. Develop a work plan that promotes learning and development in areas of concern.
  •  Keeps the Center Director informed of any necessary information regarding the care and safety of the children
  •  Completes timely and accurate documentation according to licensing or regulation requirements
  •  Assists and accepts responsibility in other center duties that might be temporary in nature in the event other personnel are not available
  •  Administers and observes the organizations office operations, policies and procedures
  •  Volunteerism is encouraged during La Casa’s sponsored events
  •  Other duties may be assigned to meet business needs
  •  Educational Level, Qualifications, Requirements and *Physical Demands
  •  Bi-lingual (English/Spanish)
  •  New Jersey Teacher Standard P – 3 Certificate; or Certificate of Eligibility P – 3; or Certificate of Eligibility with Advanced Standing; or Elementary school endorsement and 2 years of early childhood education experience desirable
  •  Bachelor’s Degree with enrollment in the Department of Education’s provisional teachers program  Excellent verbal, listening, and written communication skills required
  •  Excellent organizational skills required
  •  Must be proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Word, PowerPoint and Excel
  •  Candidate must attend meetings and professional development trainings, workshops and conferences
  •  CPR and First Aid Certification or willingness to obtain desirable
  •  Professional business attire is required.  Work is primarily performed in the center environment. Centers are dynamic with a high level of activity. Work may also be performed during field trips.

 

Candidate must be able to*:

  •  Lift up to 40 pounds
  •  Stand up to 95% of the day as well as be able to Stoop, and sit on the floor
  •  Assume postures in low level positions that best allow physical and visual contact with children
  •  Must be able to sustain a high level of energy and perform all activities with children, i.e. jump, dance, walk, run, etc. for extended periods of time.
  •  Bend to perform various tasks numerous times throughout the day
  •  Have the agility to move from a seated position to a standing position promptly to respond to emergency situations
  •  Have the ability to physically arrange classroom furniture as well as organize position and store away children cots.


Schedule:

  •  Monday – Friday (8:15 am – 3:15 pm)
