Attention: The requirements for the 30-credit Ed.M. in Language Education with endorsement in Bilingual/Bicultural Education (BBE) program have changed, effective fall 2020. Any new admissions starting spring 2021 or later should consult the new Ed.M. in Language Education with endorsement in ESL requirements.

Current students enrolled in the Ed.M. in Language Education with endorsement in BBE program who began the Ed.M. program on or before fall 2020: please note that the new program requirements do meet the New Jersey Department of Education certification requirements. If you began the Ed.M. program on or before fall 2020, you have the option of following either the new or old program requirements. The Ed.M. in Language Education with Endorsement in Bilingual/Bicultural Education is designed to extend and diversify the professional preparation of certified teachers who seek to enhance their instructional skills and knowledge in bilingual/bicultural education.

Program Requirements

The program requires a minimum of 30 credits of study beyond the baccalaureate degree. It provides for study in the area of linguistics, language pedagogy, and the cultural context of language education as well as the opportunity to select courses in elective areas. At the end of the coursework, students must pass a comprehensive examination.

Accepted students will have 5 years to complete the program, from the beginning of any course work to be counted toward the program.
