Brown Bag Lecture Series

Federal law requires states and school districts to provide additional services for English Language Learners for them to achieve "English Language Proficiency." However, states vary widely in their definitions of ELLs, their definitions of "English Language Proficiency," and their funding for ELLs. This talk provides an overview of federal policies for ELLs along with an analysis of how 51 states (includes D.C.) identify, reclassify, and provide funding for ELLs.

Ajay Srikanth is a Ph.D. in Education Candidate at Rutgers University Graduate School of Education with a focus in Theory, Organization, and Policy. His research interests include school finance and policy for high-needs populations.
