Position Summary:
The Museum Educator plays a pivotal role in assisting with the creation and implementation of mission-based programs tailored to engage diverse audiences, including children, families, seniors and individuals living with disabilities. The Museum Educator will deliver these programs both at the museum and through our extensive outreach opportunities at schools, libraries, adult living facilities, and other institutions. They will report to the Curator of Education, working collaboratively, promoting the museum’s mission and integrating educational components into changing exhibits. This is a permanent part-time position working approximately 25 hours per week, with required weekend and evening shifts relating to outreach programs and occasional weekend events. There will be an opportunity to develop this into a fulltime position in the future if desired.
Responsibilities:
- Deliver museum’s current programs both on site and through our extensive outreach
- Promote and schedule programs with schools, senior centers, scout groups, and others
- Work under the guidance of the Curator of Education to develop and produce new educational programs (such as field trips, lectures, interactive activities, and hands-on craft projects) suitable for audiences of all ages, focusing on K-12 students and seniors
- Cultivate and maintain relationships with New Jersey schools senior centers, scout groups, and others and engage them in museum programming
- Maintain Education calendar and statistics
Requirements:
- Degree in education, history or education-related field with previous teaching experience
- Demonstrated experience in developing educational programs and curriculum
- Must be self-motivated, organized, and goal oriented
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and strong attention to detail
- Ability and desire to work with learners of all ages and abilities, with a special focus on youth, families, and senior adults
- Flexible availability, including evenings and weekends as required by the education department and museum’s schedules
- Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle with ability to travel to various locations multiple times per week
Compensation:
$20-22/ hour depending on experience and qualifications. Eligible for accrued PTO.

The Museum of Early Trades & Crafts (METC) is a New Jersey history museum located in Madison NJ. We are seeking an experienced Museum Educator to join our Education Department as a part-time staff member with an immediate start date. Our public mission is realized through numerous educational and interactive programs tailored to students in grades K to 12, as well as senior and adult programs. We offer a variety of hands-on and engaging programs, exploring aspects of New Jersey history, with a focus on the late 18th through mid-19th centuries. Our education programs align with the NJ Student Learning Standards, and we have expanded our offerings to include programs on civics literacy, immigration, women, and minority rights as well as STEM/STEAM initiatives.
