Teachers-Grades 5-7: Veritas Preparatory Charter School

We’re seeking extraordinary teachers willing to do whatever it takes to put at-risk scholars on the path to college.

Our Mission:

Veritas Prep Charter School prepares students in grades 5 through 8 to compete, achieve, and succeed in high school, college, and beyond.

We Believe:

…that all students, regardless of their socioeconomic background or previous school performance, are entitled to a high quality college prep education.

… that every student should be held accountable to the highest academic and behavioral expectations.

Who We Serve:

243 Scholars from the city of Springfield in 5th, 6th, and 7th grades

Our population is: 85% Low Income, 74% Hispanic/Latino, 22% African-American/Black, 10% Special Ed, and 12% English Language Learners

Our Results:

As 4th graders in the Springfield School District our inaugural class had only 39% reach Proficient or Advanced on the state MCAS test in English Language Arts and only 22% were Proficient or Advanced in Mathematics.

After one year at Veritas Prep, the results were positive and dramatic, outperforming the state average in English and Science, Technology & Engineering, and coming within a few percentage points in Math; and we came close to closing the achievement gap when comparing Veritas Prep results with the affluent, neighboring town of East Longmeadow, MA.

How we’re closing the gap:

• High academic and behavioral expectations

• Structured environment

• Curriculum focused on outcomes

• Data driven instruction

• Character education and development

• More time to teach and learn

• We’re growing exceptional teachers!
