K-5 General Education Teacher at The Newark Educators' Community Charter School


The Newark Educators’ Community Charter School is a rigorous learning community that supports the academic, social and personal growth of children and the ongoing professional growth of educators. Teachers provide student programming from 7:50 am to 3:00 pm. Teachers engage in professional development from 3:00pm – 5:00pm.

•Adhering to Newark Educators’ Community Charter School mission and educational philosophy including all curriculum (e.g. Investigations math curriculum, Balanced Literacy, integrated project-based social studies, inquiry approach to science)

•Modifying the general education curriculum for special-needs students, based upon a variety of instructional techniques and technologies

•Planning and conducting activities for a balanced program of instruction, demonstration, and work time that provides students with opportunities to observe, question, and investigate

•Teaching and modeling goal setting, independence, and self-advocacy

•Communicating clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects to students.

•Employing diverse educational strategies and techniques during instruction to improve the development of sensory- and perceptual-motor skills, language, cognition, and memory

•Collaborating with teaching team to ensure that students experience a cohesive and inclusive teaching environment

•Playing an active role as a member of the intervention team

•Working with the parents, students, and the CSE to create and revise IEPs when appropriate.

•Maintaining student records regarding special education issues

•Ensuring compliance with all State, and Federal special education law and regulations.

•Contributing to the design of curriculum materials.

•Meeting with other professionals to discuss individual students' needs and progress.

•Conferring with parents or guardians, other teachers, counselors, and administrators in order to resolve students' behavioral and academic problems.

•Demonstrate ethical behaviors and confidentiality of information about students in school environment

•Ensuring consistent and accurate student data and analyzing classroom and grade level data

•Designing and administering rigorous, standards-based assessments and using assessment data to refine curriculum and instruction

•Helping to create a culture of order, structure, humanity, and academic rigor in the classroom and school as a whole

•Collaborating with other teachers, other school staff, and administrators

•Performing other duties, as deemed appropriate, by the administration

•Bachelor’s degree is required; Master’s degree is preferred

•Minimum of two years teaching experience in an urban public school or charter school setting preferred.
