Full-Time Faculty Member

 

College of Education at the United Arab Emirates University (UAEU) is seeking six (6) full-time faculty 
members to conduct research, teach undergraduate and graduate courses, mentor graduate students, direct 
masters’ theses and PhD dissertations, develop curriculum and teaching approaches that incorporate new 
learning technologies, supervise field experiences and student teaching, and provide professional service in 
the following areas:
  • Education Leadership
  • Mathematics Education
  • Language Learning including Second Language Development
  • Early Childhood Education
  • Special Education

Qualified candidates at all levels (assistant/associate/full) will be considered with hiring rank commensurate 
with academic accomplishments. Candidates are expected to have a strong commitment to teaching 
excellence and student advising at the undergraduate and graduate levels, a demonstrated research 
capability that will enable the candidate to develop and sustain an internally and/or externally funded 
research program in his/her area of expertise, publish his/her research findings in refereed journals, and 
actively engage in promoting the quality of teaching and research in the College of Education.
Applicants must have an earned doctoral degree in Education or a related field from an accredited university 
and will be appointed to rank based on experience and scholarly record. As the language of instruction and 
operation is English, the applicant must have native or near native capacity to teach and write in English. 
Applicants must have a record of refereed publications and an agenda of on-going research, or evidence of 
noteworthy scholarly promise in the case of younger scholars. He or she must exhibit a commitment to a 
student-centered approach to teaching.
 
The initial appointment is for a four-year period with the first two years as probationary. The standard 
teaching load is 12 hours per semester, modified in varying degrees by course remissions arising from 
funded research, consultative activities, and administrative roles. The salary range is determined by 
qualifications and level of appointment. There is no income tax in the UAE. University paid benefit include 
housing, a furniture allowance, employer-paid comprehensive health insurance, an educational allowance for 
children, annual airline tickets for the employee and family members, and an end-of-service gratuity based 
on years of service.
 
 
The College of Education was established in 1976. It has 40 faculty and 900 students in undergraduate and 
graduate programs. The first cohort of PhD students began in 2012.
 
The United Arab Emirates University is one of the leading public institutions of higher education in the Gulf 
region, employing over 1000 faculty members and serving over 13,000 students. The goal is to become 
increasingly research-intensive. The University is situated in the beautiful garden city of Al Ain in the Emirate 
of Abu Dhabi. The city's many attractions include its large scenic oases, hot springs, historical attractions, 
and dry climate. The University also offers an engaging research environment and provides opportunities for 
financial support for research. Research funding can also be sought from national foundations that have 
recently been established in the UAE.
