Directions & Transportation

We welcome visitors to the Graduate School of Education, located on the College Avenue Campus of Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey. The GSE building sits on Rutgers' historic Voorhees Mall, the academic quad between College Avenue and George Street. The GSE is easily accessible from major highways and is convenient to the Newark airport by car, bus, or rail.

From the New Jersey Turnpike (North & South)

Take Exit 9 (New Brunswick) and follow the signs for "Route 18 North–New Brunswick." Proceed 2.6 miles on Route 18 North, past Route 27, to the second George Street exit, marked "George Street–Rutgers University." Bear to the left, and at the light make a left turn onto George Street. Make the first right turn onto Seminary Place; the GSE will be on your left. Parking meters are available on the street.

From the Garden State Parkway

From the north: Take the Garden State Parkway South to the New Jersey Turnpike South (Exit 129). Proceed to Exit 9 (New Brunswick) and follow the signs for "Route 18 North–New Brunswick." Proceed 2.6 miles on Route 18 North, past Route 27, to the second George Street exit, marked "George Street–Rutgers University." Bear to the left, and at the light make a left turn onto George Street. Make the first right turn onto Seminary Place; the GSE will be on your left. Parking meters are available on the street.

From the south: Take the Parkway North to Exit 105. Follow signs to Route 18 North. Proceed to Exit 9 (New Brunswick) and follow the signs for "Route 18 North–New Brunswick." Proceed 2.6 miles on Route 18 North, past Route 27, to the second George Street exit, marked "George Street–Rutgers University." From Route 1 (North & South)

Look for signs marked "Route 18 North–New Brunswick" and exit. Proceed 2.6 miles on Route 18 North, past Route 27, to the second George Street exit, marked "George Street–Rutgers University." Bear to the left, and at the light make a left turn onto George Street. Make the first right turn onto Seminary Place; the GSE will be on your left. Parking meters are available on the street.

From Route 287

Take Exit 9 (Bound Brook–Highland Park) onto River Road and proceed through three traffic lights to the bridge (Route 18 South). Bear right onto the bridge. Take the George Street exit, stay to your left, and proceed through three traffic lights. Turn right on Seminary Place; the GSE will be on your left. Parking meters are available on the street.

From Newark Liberty International Airport

Follow the signs for "Routes 1 & 9 (Elizabeth)" upon exiting the airport. Stay in the right lane on Route 1/9. After about a mile, you will see signs for the New Jersey Turnpike. Proceed through the tolls and follow the signs for the New Jersey Turnpike South. Proceed to Exit 9 (New Brunswick) and follow the signs for "Route 18 North–New Brunswick." Proceed 2.6 miles on Route 18 North, past Route 27, to the second George Street exit, marked "George Street–Rutgers University." Bear to the left, and at the light make a left turn onto George Street. Make the first right turn onto Seminary Place; the GSE will be on your left. Parking meters are available on the street.

Local Transportation

Car

Visitors to the GSE may park at the meters on Seminary Place and adjacent streets. Commuter and resident students should visit Rutgers' Department of Transportation Services for parking permits, lot assignments, and related information.

Bus

Rutgers provides free bus and shuttle service among the five New Brunswick campuses; schedules, maps, and additional information are available online. Bus service to the surrounding area is available from NJ Transit (800-772-2222 within New Jersey; 973-762-5100 out of state) and Suburban Transit (800-222-0492).

Train

The best way to get to New York City, Philadelphia, or the region's airports is by train. The New Brunswick train station is located only two blocks from the GSE. Service is available from NJ Transit (800-772-2222 within New Jersey; 973-762-5100 out of state) via the Northeast Corridor line. Amtrak (800-USA-RAIL) also makes stops in New Brunswick.
