These are some of the GSE- and University-supported Information Technology resources available to GSE staff.

Please note that you may need to log in with your  Rutgers NetID to access 'private' resources.

GSE/RU computing resources
  • GSE Educational Microcomputer Computer Lab (EML): This instructional space with 20+ Windows-based computers, LCD projector, shared printer, and large whiteboard is available for GSE courses and special events. The lab is also open for student use when not reserved for a class or other GSE event.

  • GSE Computer-On-Wheels (COW): A self-contained mobile cart equipped with a Windows-based laptop, a LCD projector, and speakers.

    (If you or your presenter already have a laptop, we recommend using our stand-alone LCD projector, below, instead.)

  • GSE Digital Video Cameras: GSE-IT maintains a set of DV cameras for students, faculty, and staff. Available for up to one week at a time, these cameras use "mini DV" tapes.

  • GSE email lists: GSE-IT maintains a variety of broadcast email lists for communicating with GSE students, faculty, staff, departments, offices, and working groups.

  • GSE Gmail Pilot Project: GSE-IT is currently working to develop better communications and collaboration tools for the GSE using Google's Applications for Education (Gmail, Google Calendar, etc.) as a foundation. Pilot project members can log on at mail.gse.rutgers.edu.

  • GSE Help Desk : Your first stop for help with GSE-related computer, telephone, website, and other technical issues.

  • GSE LCD projector: This portable LCD projector package connects to both PCs and Mac (remember to bring your special Mac adapter--each one is different!) and includes built-in speakers, a power strip, and a carrying case.

  • GSE 'smart' rooms: GSE-IT develops and maintains 'smart' rooms for classes, meetings, and other events:

    • Room 11: Located on the lower level, conference room 11 is a sophisticated but easy-to-use ‘smart’ room. Comfortably seats 10-12 people. For more information, please see our visual guide, Using GSE Room 11.

    • Dean's Conference Room: Located on the first floor, this conference room is available for use at the discretion of the Dean.

    • Distance Learning Facility (DLF) room 30: Located on the lower level, room 30 is a class room equipped with both presentation and videoconferencing technologies. It can be used for normal classes or long-distance meetings and instruction. To make a reservation, please contact  Kris Spaventa.

  • GSE Wireless Laptop Cart: GSE-IT maintains a cart of 16 wireless Windows-based laptops as a shared resource for GSE classes, presentations, and other events. For more information about this service, please see Using & reserving the GSE laptop cart.

    Please plug-in and charge the cart when you return it so the laptops will be ready for the next person.  :-)

  • RU Wireless: GSE-IT, in conjunction with the University, offers open access to the "RUWireless" network via Rutgers NetID for laptops and other mobile devices at the GSE. For more information, please see our guide, Using RUWireless at GSE. If you need wireless access for an event at GSE for visitors without a Rutgers NetID, please contact the GSE Help Desk.

  • RU Online Services : The University offers various tools for checking course rosters, maintaining emergency contact information, and much more.


GSE/RU computing policies

  • GSE Faculty Computer Package : The GSE provides all faculty members with a standard, state-of-the-art computer package as outlined here. This document also covers computer upgrades and new computer equipment purchases.
  • GSE Help Desk policy : An overview of the methodology and tools used to manage IT support for the GSE.
  • GSE Help Desk log : The latest monthly report of GSE Help Desk requests and completions. Sorted by completed items, request type, and date.
  • RU Acceptable Use Policy : Covers the acceptable, ethical uses of the University's computing resources.
  • RU Email Address/NetID Policy : To facilitate open communications, the University requires all students, faculty and staff to create a NetID, register a current email address, and to read email regularly (or otherwise have access to official announcements that are distributed via email.)
