Student Awards
Thursday,  May  8  2008

Several GSE students receive recognition for their notable accomplishments.

Timothy Nordin, a first year Ph. D. student in Rutgers’ educational policy program, was recently awarded an National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship. The program offers awards to scholars in science related fields whose research interests are both well constructed and likely to have broad implications.  The nationally competitive program offers fellows three years of full funding to pursue their proposed projects. Timothy’s project centers on how high school principals manage leadership and content knowledge in science to improve learning for students.

Prior to joining the GSE, Nordin taught high school science in a small rural high school in Iowa. His policy interests include science education, leadership, rural and urban education, and social justice. In addition to the NSF fellowship, he has been awarded the Rutgers Presidential Fellowship, a National Merit Scholarship and an Eagleton Fellowship.

Two GSE teacher education students have been awarded the New Jersey Department of Education's 2008 Distinguished Student Teacher Award. These students were nominated by GSE faculty members for outstanding achievement during their teaching internships.  The winners are:
