The State of New Jersey requires all college based programs that prepare professionals to work in schools have their programs nationally accredited by the appropriate organization. In 2004, the GSE faculty voted to have its program in educational administration reviewed by the Teacher Education Accreditation Council (TEAC).
A four year self-study followed by a site visit to GSE was concluded in November 2008. Based on this review, GSE's educational administration program has been awarded “Initial Accreditation” status with no weaknesses or stipulations (the highest possible level at this time) by TEAC. The GSE educational administration program graduates receive a masters in educational administration preparing educators for a career as school leaders. This “Initial Accreditation” status is effective June 22, 2009 to June 22, 2014.
Dean De Lisi stated “I am pleased with the positive evaluation by TEAC, which affirms that our educational administration program prepares outstanding beginning principals. The rigorous review process served to strengthen the educational administration program even more. I thank faculty and staff who invested their time, energy and expertise in examining our program. These efforts resulted in a very positive appraisal from TEAC.”
The Teacher Education Accreditation Council (TEAC), founded in 1997, is a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving academic degree programs for professional educators. Its goal is to support the preparation of competent, caring, and qualified professional educators. TEAC’s primary work is accrediting undergraduate and graduate professional education programs in order to assure the public about the quality of college and university programs. It is the program, not the institution or department that receives accreditation by TEAC. TEAC’s accreditation process is built around the program’s case that it prepares competent, caring, and qualified professional educators. TEAC requires the program to have evidence to support its case, and the accreditation process examines and verifies the evidence. TEAC’s membership represents education programs within a broad range of higher education institutions and includes professional organizations.
