GSE Paths

Becoming a Teacher

At the GSE, we offer you two paths to becoming a teacher.

If you are an undergraduate student at Rutgers University, you can enroll in our Office of Teacher Education 5-Year Program.

Coursework in education that is prerequisite to admission to the five-year teacher education program may begin as early as the sophomore year. Students apply to the five-year program in the junior year, begin their study of professional education in the senior year, and continue with an internship and advanced professional studies in the fifth year. The B.A. is awarded at the end of four years and the Ed.M. at the end of the fifth year.
