Degree Requirements

I. Counseling Psychology Core (9 credits)

  • 15:297:501         Introduction to Counseling Psychology (3)
  • 15:297:505         Group Psychology: Theory and Practice I (3)

II. Basic Psychology Core (9 credits)  (Educational Psychology 290 or Learning, Cognition, & Development 295.   Ideally, a course in human development, in learning or cognition, and in personality.)

III. Educational Statistics, Measurement & Evaluation Core (9 credits)

  • 15:291:531         Statistical Methods I (previously 16:960:531) (3)
  • 15:291:532         Statistical Methods II (previously 16:960:532) (3)
  • 15:291:515         Psychometric Theory I  (3)

IV. Electives (6 credits)  (Counseling Psychology courses may be taken to satisfy elective requirements)

Total 33 Credits

Students who can demonstrate competence through prior training or experience in typically required courses may, with the approval of their advisor, substitute advanced courses in the same area.

Note:  The Ed.M. program in counseling psychology does not include practicum training.  Students should be aware they may be less competitive for professional psychology programs without practicum experience.  All graduates who wish to qualify for professional practice in psychology must complete a doctoral program in professional psychology.
