About the Program Area Degrees, Certifications & Endorsements

The programs (master's and doctoral) provide an opportunity for students to examine the assumptions about Learning and Teaching that underlie current practice and to consider alternative assumptions and the practices that follow. Core courses introduce students to relevant models, theories, and research findings that they can use as conceptual lenses through which to view their ongoing classroom practice.

Although responsibility for these programs rests with the core faculty, the programs incorporate courses given by faculty in literacy, mathematics, science, language, and technology education; indeed, most students select a concentration in one of these areas. Non-certification masters students may also choose a concentration in Early Childhood Education or a concentration that examines classroom social processes, doctoral students may choose a concentration in Teaching and Teacher Education. Programs draw upon strengths in theDepartment of Educational Psychologyand the Department of Educational Theory, Policy and Administration.
